JAMESTOWN, NY - The St. Susan Center, a soup kitchen based in Jamestown, New York, celebrated a monumental moment Tuesday as they welcomed a generous donation of 40,000 pounds of food.

A semi-truck laden with this bountiful donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints arrived this week in a remarkable act of generosity, spearheaded by Falconer, NY native Sam Ognibene, which showcases the spirit of compassion and unity within our community.

"We hope this donation showcases togetherness and unity of effort sharing the food with all of the community showcasing the love we show at the St. Susan Center," said Cherie Rowland, Executive Director of the St. Susan Center.

The center extended invitations to partners, pantries, community members, and local officials to join in celebrating this significant contribution, which not only bolsters St. Susan's mission to feed those in need, but also, promises to have a far-reaching impact across Western New York.

All donated food items are shelf-stable and capable of lasting, ensuring their availability to those who need them most. The St. Susan Center will distribute the donations not only within its own operations, but also to Feedmore WNY and other local food pantries across Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

"St. Susan’s is so grateful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for this enormous gift of 40,000 pounds of food," expressed Cherie Rowland. "This gift will enable us and so many other pantries in our area to meet the needs for food in our community."

Since the beginning of the year, St. Susan’s has served over 16,000 meals, with plans to provide 60,000 meals by the end of 2024. This generous donation not only supports these efforts but also reinforces the collective commitment to combating food insecurity in our region.
